Trainee Test Technician

Vectawave Technology Ltd are designers and manufacturers of Solid State RF and Microwave Amplifiers. We currently have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Trainee Test Technician, at our site in Newport, Isle of Wight.

This role is offered on a full time, permanent basis in return for a competitive salary.

This is a hands on role which will require you to work on a mixture of RF and Microwave products from sub-assemblies, modules, amplifiers and systems. You will be responsible for ensuring our products and systems are tested in accordance with approved procedures and documentation, within schedules and to quality standards.

Reporting to the Test Manager, the role will involve:

  • Following test methods and procedures to ensure products achieve documented specifications
  • Recording and maintaining test result integrity by serial number, validating the test records by checking any formal release, documenting test variations and non-conformance
  • Diagnosis of faults, repair to component level, modifying and upgrading modules, sub-assemblies and complete systems
  • Following equipment and personnel safety requirements applicable to the product under test (e.g. test equipment suitability, anti-static precautions)
  • Ensuring all test equipment used is of sufficient standard and calibrated, reporting and recording deviations
  • Carry out other production test tasks as instructed by the Test Manager

Training will predominantly be role based, however as you progress there is the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of RF and microwave principles.

As a Trainee Test Technician, it would be desirable to have the following skills:

·         Experience of working in a production environment, utilising assembly, P.C.B soldering skills

·         Experience of reading and interpreting engineering drawings and schematics

·         An excellent attention to detail and accuracy

·         Effective communications skills both written and verbal

  • Proven problem-solving methodologies
  • Computer literate with good IT skills, particularly using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
