This is a fantastic opportunity to join the dynamic & efficient administration team at the Royal Solent Yacht Club!
The Sailing Secretary is a very important administrative and customer facing role as you will be the Club’s main representative for all sailing and cruising matters.
If you possess the following skills and experience, then this could be the ideal role for you:
• Past experience in a similar role will be an advantage
• Friendly and positive when dealing with people
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to use own initiative & work unsupervised
• High level of accuracy & attention to detail
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask well
• Ability to cope well and remain calm under pressure
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise work
• Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
• Knowledge of Halsail Sailing Regatta Management and Scoring
• Competent at using website Content Management Systems
• And, above all, a team player
Your main tasks will include:
• Manage the Sailing Office
• Liaise effectively with the Rear Commodore Sailing, Chief Race Officers and Boatmen
• Oversee the smooth running of all on-the-water events and activities
• Produce committee meeting agendas and minutes
• Produce and distribute all Entry Forms, Sailing Instructions and Notices of Race
• Oversee the production and distribution of racing results
• Ensure all on-the-water events and activities are promoted online, via email and on the sailing noticeboard
• Generate a monthly sailing email newsletter to members
• Ensure on-the-water risk assessment forms are up to date
• Ensure the Club’s boats and Grants are properly equipped (paperwork, flags, boards etc)
• Arrange appropriate training courses
• Oversee the RYA annual inspection
• Maintain an inventory of the Club’s boating/racing equipment
• Manage the Club’s prizes, trophies and trophy register
• Manage members’ mooring requirements
• Endeavour to attract rallies and classes to sail at the Club
• Maintain communication with class or association captains/secretaries
• Liaise with Yarmouth Harbour regarding racing commitments and berthing/mooring facilities
• Assist the Front Office, when required, with enquiries via the telephone and via the front desk

Normal hours will be 35 hours per week from April to September (9am – 5pm Mondays to Fridays) and 21 hours per week from October to March (9am – 5pm on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays) with an unpaid one-hour lunch break.
There will also be a requirement to work a number of weekends and evenings to support key sailing events, for which time off in lieu will be given.
