Red Funnel was formed in 1861 as the ‘Original Isle of Wight ferry operator’. Today, we carry 3.4M passengers and 860,000 vehicles across the Solent each year. The Company operates 365 days a year, with 30,000 sailings between Southampton on the UK mainland and East and West Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Our fleet consists of modern purpose-built Ro-Pax vehicle ferries and Red Jet Hi-Speed passenger catamarans.  

We’re passionate about technology, and we are looking for a skilled .NET Developer to join our talented team. 

Role Overview 

As a .NET Developer at Red Funnel, you’ll play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust applications using the Microsoft .NET framework. You’ll work across the full stack, collaborating with other developers, product managers, stakeholders and 3rd parties to deliver high-quality software solutions. You’ll play a key role working with the team to improve working practices and influencing how we work.

Continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Azure DevOps 

Cloud-First approach to development (Azure) 

Develop solutions utilising any capabilities within the .NET framework

 

Low code frameworks (Power Platform) 

Responsibilities 

  • Develop, test, and deploy .NET applications, APIs, and web services. 
  • Collaborate with the business to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications. 
  • Implement best practices for code quality, security, and performance. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to existing applications. 
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies. 
  • Effectively promote new technologies and working practices, contributing to the continual improvement cycle. 

Qualifications 

  • Either a related University attained qualification or 2 years proven experience in software development. 
  • Proficiency in C# and .NET framework.
  • Proven experience working in an Agile development life cycle. 
  • Experience with ASP.NET MVC, and Web API development. 
  • Knowledge of database design and SQL (SQL Server). 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. 

Preferred: 

  • Previous experience working on full-stack projects. 
  • Good understanding or experience utilisiing Microsoft Azure. 
  • Strong talent and passion for web development in particular. 
  • Strong knowledge with front-end technologies, primarily using ASP.NET Core. 
  • Some experience in .NET MAUI is an advantage.
