Lead Receptionist - RSPCA Isle of Wight

Job Posted: 13 July 2026

Closing Date: Thursday 6 August

About Us

RSPCA Isle of Wight is an independent charity, supporting the work of the RSPCA at a local level. Our Animal Centre, near Godshill, supports some of Island's most vulnerable animals.

We operate a commercial boarding business and a range of charity shops; the profits from which support our work.

The Role

Acting as ambassador for the RSPCA you'll be a key first point of contact for visitors to our Animal Centre. As our Lead Receptionist you'll co-ordinate reception duties working alongside staff and volunteers. At times you'll be busy assisting the public, and their animals, whilst quieter periods will be focussed on the administration of boarding bookings and animal adoptions.

The role includes:

Responding to incoming enquiries and appointments, by phone email and face-to-face.

Meeting with members of the public who wish to adopt an animal; guiding them through the adoption process and facilitating introductions to their new pets. Preparation of adoption packs and the completion of pre-adoption paperwork.

Welcoming customers and their animals to Bohemia Boarding.

Administration of animal boarding bookings,  ensuring that the necessary paperwork is in place (for example vaccination cards, vets details and emergency contact details).

Helping with the smooth operation of our Animal Centre, including deliveries, post and general administration.

Accepting donations of food and bedding from members of the public, and selling pet-related goods from our on-site shop.

Leading and training our volunteer receptionists who assist during the week.

Experience & qualifications

We're looking for someone to provide exceptional customer service and sound administration skills.

In particular:

Experience of working in a customer-facing environment, with experience as a receptionist being advantageous

A good standard of IT literacy and administration skills, with the ability to use standard software and learn our bespoke booking and animal records system

Able to communicate effectively over the phone or by email

Excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to work with a wide range of staff and volunteers, plus members of the public

You'll need to be comfortable working around animals, particularly welcoming those checking in or out of our boarding facilities, or being adopted

Working Hours

This is a full-time post: 37.5hrs per week. Mon - Fri.
