We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic individual to join our team as Animal Care Co-ordinator. The team plays a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of care and welfare for a diverse range of species. This really is an exciting, hands-on role for someone who is keen to share their passion for animal welfare and be a part of the Isle of Wight College’s future plans.
About the role
Within this role, you will provide expert technical support within the Animal Centre, ensuring accordance with the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and other relevant Codes of Practice. You will be required to manage and be the named contact on the Animal Exhibits Licence. You will also oversee the work of other technicians, providing guidance as needed to maintain high standards of care. This role will be worked in accordance with an agreed rota, which will include bank holidays and outside of hours working when required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide essential support for practical lessons held in the Animal Centre
• Perform daily husbandry tasks, including feeding, administering medication, and maintaining optimal environmental conditions
• Conduct regular health and safety checks, ensuring all reports and assessments comply with college policies
• Manage and coordinate staff rotas for the technician team
• Oversee and manage the Animal Centre budget
• Carry out checks and maintain animal soft wear and veterinary notes
About you
To be successful in this role, you will need;
• Level 2 Qualifications in English and Maths
• A Level 3 Qualification in Animal Care or equivalent
• Knowledge of a wide range of animals and their behaviour to inform their wellbeing
• Demonstrable industry experience and knowledge of relevant legislation / codes of practice
• A working knowledge of COSHH is desirable but not essential
