We are excited to offer the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of our passionate and motivated AMHP Team.

We are looking for the Trainee Approved Mental Health Professional, this post is open to registered social workers, occupational therapists, nurses, and psychologists who currently hold the relevant professional regulatory registration.  We will be offering full support through your AMHP pathway and the academic course, you are expected to pass the course within first two years of employment.

AMHPs are mental health professionals who have been approved by the local authority to carry out certain duties under the Mental Health Act. They are responsible for coordinating assessments, exploring all least restrictive options to care and treatment and admission to hospital should a person be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.

To support your learning, you will experience all aspects of the provisions we offer as a service. You will shadow the AMHPs during Mental Health Act assessments, complete nearest relative enquiry work and participate in AMHP Triage.

Upon your successful completion of the AMHP course, you will work towards being an authorised Approved Mental Health Professional.

The Isle of Wight AMHP Team works within a 24-hour on-call rota, including evening and weekend hours and bank holidays. Post-holders will also be expected to cover the Mental Health duty function when required for general enquiries about clients already known to our service for any new referrals to Adult Social Care to provide a point of contact for clients, families, and providers.

About you:

You will be a registered social worker, occupational therapist or mental health nurse with a proven track record of commitment to professional development, and experience of working with people in mental health crises.

You must be committed to the principles of mental health legislation, with a strong focus on recovery and prevention principles and the promotion of human rights for people with mental health issues and their supporters.

You should have demonstrable experience in statutory mental health services, with a specific focus on risk management and multi-agency working.

You should be able to demonstrate high levels of motivation for self-development. You should be able to evidence initiative, flexibility, resilience and a strong commitment to developing the team and the reputation of the wider service in line with the National AMHP Service Standards (2020).

PLEASE NOTE: Out of Hours Standby and Call Out

You will be required to take part in the Out of Hours Stand-by Duty Rota as and when requested by management.

Standby and call out duties are paid in accordance with the IWC Terms and Conditions 2012 document.
