Evening Care Assistant

Location: Victoria House, Ryde

Hours: Ideally 16–20 hours per week, with additional hours available

Shift times: 5.30pm–9.30pm, with cover required across all seven days of the week

We are looking for a kind, caring and reliable Evening Care Assistant to join our team. You will help our residents feel comfortable, supported and ready to settle for the night, providing care that respects their individual needs, preferences and routines.

This role provides valuable support during our busy evening period, particularly around the changeover between day and night staff at 7pm. You will work alongside both teams to help maintain continuity of care and ensure residents receive timely support throughout the evening.

About the role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Personal care: Supporting residents with their evening personal care, including washing, toileting, changing into nightwear and maintaining their comfort and dignity.

• Bedtime routines: Helping residents get ready for bed at their preferred time, following their individual care plans and encouraging independence wherever possible.

• Supper and drinks: Offering and assisting with supper and drinks, following residents’ dietary requirements and care plans.

• Answering call bells: Responding promptly and reassuringly to residents who request assistance.

• Supporting the shift changeover: Providing care while the day and night teams complete their 7pm handover, and sharing relevant information with colleagues.

• Companionship and reassurance: Taking time to listen, offer conversation and help residents feel safe and settled.

• Recording care: Completing accurate, timely records of the care and support provided, in line with the home’s procedures.

• Communicating concerns: Reporting any changes in a resident’s wellbeing or care needs to the senior member of staff on duty.

• Works well as part of a team and communicates clearly with residents and colleagues.

• Is dependable, attentive and able to respond calmly to residents’ needs.

• Takes pride in providing good care and keeping accurate records.

• Can work evening shifts, with availability to be discussed as part of the application process.

Working hours

Each shift is four hours, from 5.30pm to 9.30pm. We are ideally looking for someone who can work 16–20 hours per week, equivalent to four or five evening shifts.

We need cover across all seven evenings of the week, so additional hours are available. Your availability and preferred working days can be discussed when applying.
