Role Overview
Cheetah Marine is seeking a Marine Electrical Engineer to support the electrical design, installation, testing, and certification of onboard systems across its vessel range. This role is focused on AC electrical installations, production of electrical drawings, system integration, and final electrical sign-off. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all electrical systems are installed to a high standard, fully documented, and compliant with relevant marine regulations and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, specify, and oversee installation of onboard AC electrical systems for new-build vessels.
- Produce and update electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
- Support integration of shore power, generators, battery chargers, inverters, distribution boards, and associated protection systems.
- Ensure correct installation and testing of cabling, switchgear, control panels, and electrical equipment.
- Carry out inspection, fault-finding, commissioning, and verification of electrical systems.
- Take responsibility for electrical sign-off on completed installations, ensuring compliance with company, customer, and regulatory standards.
- Work closely with mechanical engineers, boatbuilders, and production staff to coordinate installation activities.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, test records, and handover packs.
- Participate in vessel commissioning, dockside testing, and sea trials where required.
- Support continuous improvement in electrical design standards, installation methods, and documentation processes.
Skills and Experience
- Qualification in Electrical Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in AC electrical installations, ideally in marine, industrial, or vehicle-based systems.
- Proven ability to create and interpret electrical drawings and wiring schematics.
- Experience with electrical inspection, testing, and sign-off procedures.
- Good understanding of distribution systems, circuit protection, earthing, isolation, and fault diagnosis.
- Familiarity with marine electrical standards and relevant compliance requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary production team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
Desirable
- Experience in marine vessel construction or refit.
- Knowledge of both AC and DC marine systems.
- Familiarity with CAD or electrical design software for schematic production.
- Experience with control panels, monitoring systems, and integration of auxiliary onboard equipment.
- Understanding of regulatory standards applicable to commercial and leisure craft.
