Communications & Marketing Specialist – World Cruising Club

Are you interested in sailing and excited by the idea of being involved in one of the world’s longest- running sailing events? Do you have proven skills in marketing and communications?

World Cruising Club runs sailing events for cruising boats, including the famous ARC Atlantic Rally for Cruisers and the World ARC round the world rally. We’re looking for someone to help us deliver event communications to participants, aspiring ralliers, yachting media and the wider public.

You’ll be involved in writing newsletters, blogs and press releases, creating video and curating photography, raising awareness on social media, and helping with marketing administration for our sailing events and seminars. Everything we do is about ensuring that our participants are prepared and have a safe ocean sailing adventure – there’s a lot of talk and writing about boats and sailing, so it needs to be something that really interests you.

As well as having some knowledge of sailing, you will have a qualification in marketing, communications or PR and some experience in a similar role in a busy organisation.

This is a varied role working as part of a small and supportive team based in Cowes, Isle of Wight. There will be occasional travel in the UK and overseas, plus occasional evening and weekend work. This is not a remote-working role, but there is some flexibility for the right candidate.

Salary £29-34k + pension + time off in lieu.

Updating and editing email newsletters (Constant Contact?).

Help to organise participant recruitment events in the UK, Europe and online.

Support the event teams overseas with media liaison and content management.

Attend some World Cruising Club events including the start or finish of rallies, and participant recruitment events like seminars and demonstrations.

Key attributes

Previous experience in a PR, media, communications or marketing role, with a relevant degree or qualification from CIM or CIPR.

Strong project management skills with an ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Demonstrable experience in creating and editing content for B2C websites.

Confident in creating appropriate B2C content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other communication platforms.

Proficient in MS Office programs, particularly Excel and Word, as well as Adobe Creative Suite products and online design tools.
