Job Description
Job Title: Chief Instructor
Location: BHYC
Reports to: Sailing Principal/ Club Secretary
Hours of work: Average of 25 hours per week to include some weekend and evening cover weighted towards the busy seasons of school holidays. 1 April to October 31.
Job Purpose:
To manage the running of RYA Courses at BHYC.
To ensure all training courses are run using high standards
To support all sailing and powerboat activities in the Club from cadets through to Club open events. This will involve, but not limited to onshore activities, preparing and maintaining boats and equipment and on the water instruction and coaching.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
· Manage and run the current year’s calendar of courses, ensuring the correct personnel and resources are organised in good time.
· Ensure Instructors are current in all required certification and are marked as instructors within the RYA website.
· Attend any RYA inspections.
· Understand and use the website capabilities in order to streamline management of the training team.
· Work with the Sailing Principal to further market the BHYC RYA courses to increase revenue and profit.
· Review and manage instructor training requirements.
· Manage a structured documented procedure for awarding certificates, registering certificates internally and also with the RYA.
· Liaise with the Bosun to ensure all dinghies and powered craft are in a fit state for each scheduled activity.
· Carry out periodic inspection/maintenance on agreed items of equipment.
· Ensure the RIBs are fully of fuel on a weekly basis during periods of training.
· Provide support, if required, for Club sailing events such as cadet, after school, social sailing and other organized Club events.
· Provide Training Administration with boat allocations for students.
Essential Requirements:
· RYA Senior Instructor Sailing and Power Boat qualifications.
· First Aid Certificate
· DBS
· RYA Safe and Fun
Desirable:
To become qualified to instruct any of the following courses:
RYA level 2 coach, Wind Surfing, Paddle Boarding, Advanced Power Boat, Kayaking, First Aid, Safety Boat, VHF, Keelboat, Safety Boat and be a Coach Assessor
