Overview:
Ryde Inshore Rescue is an independent lifeboat service dedicated to ensuring the safety of those in and around the waters of Ryde and the surrounding areas. We are looking for dedicated individuals to join our team as Boat Crew or Shore Crew, helping to support our lifesaving mission.
Responsibilities:
Boat Crew:
- Assist in launching, operating, and recovering rescue boats during emergency callouts and training exercises.
- Conduct search and rescue operations in challenging conditions.
- Work as part of a team to provide lifesaving assistance to individuals in distress.
- Maintain and check rescue equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Participate in ongoing training and assessments to maintain high safety and competency standards.
- Communicate effectively with fellow crew members and shore-based support teams.
- Help with community engagement, fundraising, and awareness events to support the organization.
Shore Crew:
- Assist with launching and recovering rescue boats safely and efficiently.
- Operate communication systems to liaise with emergency services and boat crews.
- Provide logistical and operational support for rescue operations.
- Maintain the boathouse, vehicles, and equipment to ensure they are in excellent working order.
- Help with community engagement, fundraising, and awareness events to support the organization.
- Support training exercises and drills as needed.
Requirements:
- A strong sense of teamwork, reliability, and commitment.
- Good physical fitness and the ability to work in demanding conditions (particularly for Boat Crew).
- Willingness to undertake training, including first aid, water rescue, and boat handling skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick decisions.
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions.
- No prior experience required—full training provided.
Desirable Skills & Attributes:
- Previous experience in boating, water sports, or emergency response roles.
- Mechanical or maintenance skills for equipment upkeep.
- Radio communication or maritime navigation knowledge.
- First aid or medical response training.
