We are looking for an experienced Senior Barista to join our team at The Piano Café, Freshwater Gate
We are a bustling café in Freshwater which re-opened in Jan 2025 under new ownership with Tom and Hannah. Since then we've built a great reputation for the coffee we serve, so this is a really exciting opportunity for someone as crazy about coffee as we are, to join our family.
About us: We operate seven days a week and serve up to 300 guests a day, 400+ on peak days.
Every member of our team is passionate about food and service. You will work alongside the owners to bring new seasonal ideas to the drinks menu. We have a "one team" approach, and you'll run drinks + food, clear tables alongside the FOH team when required.
Although we are ‘just a cafe’ we push for exceptional standards of consistency with our coffee. We are proud to work with Island Roasted for our beans, and operate with a 3-group Eagle One. We take coffee very, very seriously, and so do our customers. You can see the standard we deliver here https://www.instagram.com/thepianocafe/.
The role: This vacancy is for a 5 day role in season and 4 day role from November 8am - 4pm each day.
Is this you?
- You have experience as a senior barista in a busy cafe.
- You can confidently and consistently deliver tulips + rosettes as a latte art minimum.
- You are experienced and confident dialling in and daily housekeeping on a coffee machine (we'll teach you the nuances of our machine).
- Calm under pressure: you're not phased by 8-10 coffee tickets on... and more coming.
- You have a positive "can-do" attitude and enjoy being part of a team.
- You can travel to Freshwater for 8.30/9am starts (4pm finishes) each day.
- You are happy to be part of an inclusive FoH/barista team, with some FoH duties and cleaning tasks.
- You can complete bi-weekly stock checks and work closely with the Restaurant Manager to order all bar stock.
- You're proactive: making the most of quiet times - cleaning and rotating stock
- You can adhering to our cleaning and prep checklists in accordance with H&S and EHO standards.
Benefits
- This role will have a minimum contracted hours of 28 all year round, with scope for 35-40 over summer. Your paid holiday will be pro-rated to your hours (min 22 days a year based on a 28 hour week). We offer a competitive hourly rate and our team enjoy an even split of generous gratuity and cash tips. We provide uniform, staff meals and 50% staff discount on additional purchases. You have the opportunity to work 1-2 evenings a month (serving Friday dinner) but this is depending on you, and your experience.
