Could you be the positive influence that helps a young person thrive?
At Island Youthways, we know that sometimes all it takes is one caring, consistent adult to make a lasting difference. We're looking for compassionate and reliable people to join our team, supporting young people as they build confidence, develop independence and move towards brighter futures.
We provide a safe, nurturing environment where young people feel valued, respected and supported to reach their potential. Every day is different, and every day is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
We're looking for people who:
- Are kind, compassionate and supportive
- Enjoy working with young people and building positive relationships
- Can remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Are good communicators and team players
- Have resilience, patience and a genuine desire to help others succeed
- Hold a driving licence and have access to a vehicle with business insurance
Previous experience in care, youth work, education, mental health or supported accommodation is helpful, but not essential. We welcome applicants with transferable skills, life experience and, most importantly, the right values and attitude.
The Role
As a Youth Coach, you will support young people with daily living skills, education, employment, appointments, emotional wellbeing and developing independence. You'll work in a trauma-informed, person-centred way, helping young people feel safe, valued and supported as they prepare for adult life.
A typical shift starts at 3:30pm, supporting young people throughout the evening with meals, life skills, appointments, activities and wellbeing. At 11:00pm, you'll begin a sleep-in shift and be available should a young person need support during the night. Sleep-in hours are paid at an hourly rate, and the shift resumes at 7:00am before finishing at 9:30am following morning support.
Salary starts at £13.25 per hour for weekday shifts and £14.75 per hour for weekend shifts. Sleep-in hours are paid at the applicable National Minimum Wage rate, currently £12.71 per hour, with 8 hours paid for each sleep-in shift.
The role involves a mixture of weekday and weekend shifts, working on a rolling two-week rota with one weekend on and one weekend off. This predictable pattern helps provide a good work-life balance for staff while ensuring consistent support for the young people we work with.
What We Offer
- Permanent contract with guaranteed hours
- Paid sleep-in shifts
- Enhanced DBS paid for by us
- Full induction, shadowing and training
- Ongoing professional development and career progression opportunities
- Regular supervision and support
- Holiday entitlement
- A welcoming, friendly and supportive team culture
