Purpose and Objectives

  • To ensure that a high standard of support, advice and encouragement is offered to all residents in the home by ensuring that you work on the person-centred plan with all young people on a daily basis.
  • To ensure that the provision you work in is maintained to a high standard of appearance / upkeep / presentation and that the health and safety of both the home and residents is prioritised at all times.
  • To ensure that all paperwork relevant to the home is completed to a professional standard, adhering to all company policies and procedures, and working with other agencies as required.
  • To engage with any training offered to enable you to provide all residents with the best possible outcomes.

Duties

  1. To have responsibility for the running of the home as a lone-worker on each shift, ensuring all legislation and all company policies are complied with at all times. 
  2. To show the ability to make decisions within your role and responsibilities and seek advice from management as and when necessary.  
  3. To ensure your practice provides each resident with support, advice and encouragement in an authoritative manner, and that you model appropriate behaviour at all times.
  4. To take responsibility for the appearance and cleanliness of the home that you are working in, promoting and encouraging the residents to take responsibility for this. If necessary, and the home falls below a certain standard then to take this responsibility from them.
  5. To attend Post 16 training and workshops and any other training deemed necessary to further your knowledge of the provision. 
  6. To have knowledge of each young resident’s person-centred support plan and ensure that you are working with the document daily in a creative manner.
  7. To ensure that you are familiar with the policies and procedures within the Post 16 provision and the wider company policies and procedures.
  8. To write and compile reports, update risk assessments (as necessary) and to ensure that you complete each task on the daily checklist.
  9. To work collaboratively with other Post 16 team members across the post 16 service, to ensure consistency and development of the service.
  10. To ensure you attend and engage with team meetings, individual and group supervisions.
  11. To manage your own workload effectively ensuring that all tasks are fulfilled by required deadlines.
  12. To manage own personal and continuous professional development through self-assessment, supervision, training, and the acquisition of different learning opportunities.
  13. Any other tasks that may be required by line manager.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Experience

 ü  NVQ Level 3 in Child Care /BSc SW / DIPSW or willing to work towards one of these.

ü  Willingness to increase knowledge through ongoing training.

ü  Ability to display decisiveness.

v  Experience of managing shifts as a team leader in residential or outreach services for young people.

v  Minimum of 1-year residential experience.

ü  Ability to demonstrate self-awareness.

ü  Able to act calmly and purposefully in crisis situations.

ü  Evidence of a realistic appreciation of own strengths and weaknesses and commitment to self-development.

ü  Able to prioritise effectively across a range of demands.

v  Able to create solutions in response to challenges whilst working within agreed parameters.

ü  Able to manage own time and paperwork effectively to meet goals.

ü  Writing and reviewing of young people’s support plans.

ü  Able to communicate effectively and confidently conveying clear messages in writing or verbally.

ü  Able to liaise with managers and colleagues.

ü  Able to listen and pick up on messages from colleagues, staff and service users.

ü  To have a high standard of report writing skills.

v  Examples of prepared and presented reports, written and verbal.

ü  Demonstrable ability to work collaboratively and co-operatively with all professional colleagues and service users.
