Job Purpose
To provide high-quality, person-centred care and support to residents, promoting dignity, independence, privacy, and wellbeing at all times within a residential care home environment.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care
- Assist residents with daily living activities including washing, bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Support residents with mobility, transfers, and use of mobility aids.
- Assist with eating and drinking where required while encouraging independence.
Health & Wellbeing
- Monitor residents’ physical and emotional wellbeing and report any concerns to senior staff.
- Support residents with medication administration (where trained and authorised).
- Maintain accurate care records and documentation.
Emotional & Social Support
- Build positive relationships with residents, families, and colleagues.
- Encourage participation in social activities and community engagement.
- Provide companionship and emotional reassurance.
Daily Living Support
- Assist residents with meal preparation and serving meals.
- Support housekeeping tasks such as maintaining clean and safe living environments.
- Promote choice, independence, and respect for residents’ preferences.
Safeguarding & Safety
- Follow safeguarding procedures to protect vulnerable adults.
- Adhere to health and safety policies, infection control, and moving & handling procedures.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Caring and compassionate nature.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Reliable and flexible approach to shift work.
- Basic literacy and record-keeping skills.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a care setting.
- NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards).
- Knowledge of dementia care.
