Job Purpose

To provide high-quality, person-centred care and support to residents, promoting dignity, independence, privacy, and wellbeing at all times within a residential care home environment.

Key Responsibilities

Personal Care

  • Assist residents with daily living activities including washing, bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
  • Support residents with mobility, transfers, and use of mobility aids.
  • Assist with eating and drinking where required while encouraging independence.

Health & Wellbeing

  • Monitor residents’ physical and emotional wellbeing and report any concerns to senior staff.
  • Support residents with medication administration (where trained and authorised).
  • Maintain accurate care records and documentation.

Emotional & Social Support

  • Build positive relationships with residents, families, and colleagues.
  • Encourage participation in social activities and community engagement.
  • Provide companionship and emotional reassurance.

Daily Living Support

  • Assist residents with meal preparation and serving meals.
  • Support housekeeping tasks such as maintaining clean and safe living environments.
  • Promote choice, independence, and respect for residents’ preferences.

Safeguarding & Safety

  • Follow safeguarding procedures to protect vulnerable adults.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies, infection control, and moving & handling procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Caring and compassionate nature.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Reliable and flexible approach to shift work.
  • Basic literacy and record-keeping skills.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a care setting.
  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards).
  • Knowledge of dementia care.

Working Conditions
