We are looking for 2 Care & Support Workers to join us here at Southern Housing!

You will work as part of a team providing personalised care and support services promoting independence, health and wellbeing to people with learning disabilities living at our supported housing scheme

You will need to work flexibly to cover evenings and weekends as required to meet the needs of the service. You must be physically able to undertake moving and handling, have the use of a vehicle with business use insurance and will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check.

In this role, you will be required to undertake sleep-in duties

Please note, this role will be part time, contracted 21 hours a week

The location

You will work in our St Helena scheme, based in Sandown, Isle of Wight

What you’ll be doing 

  • Provide support and care to residents/customers, as identified in their individualised plan; in a way which promotes independence, rights, choices and inclusion in the community
  • Support residents/customers’ participation in social, leisure, educational and employment opportunities within the local community as outlined in their personalised plan
  • Deal with emergency situations in a calm and professional manner and in accordance with relevant policies and procedures
  • Maintain and develop professional relationships with people who use the service
  • Provide support to residents/customers on benefits, budgeting and menu planning as appropriate
  • Signpost and access specialist services as required
  • Provide assistance with security and safety of residents/customers’ homes, and provide support with maintaining their environments
  • Liaise with other housing, health and social care professionals, welfare and advocacy agencies, and other landlords as appropriate

What you’ll need 

  • Hold 4 GCSE passes at grade “C” or above (or equivalent Grade 9-5) inc Maths & English
  • An understanding of the specific requirements of people with support and care needs
  • Good verbal, IT and written communication skills
  • Empathy, compassion, patience and flexibility
  • Be able to act calmly in emergencies and respond in a professional manner to stressful and challenging behaviour
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Able to work both as part of a team and also unsupervised
  • Knowledge of personal boundaries, and awareness of local services, including community and social groups
