Grade 3, £23,114 to Grade 6, £25,979 per annum

Hours: 37 per week

The Council tax team is currently seeking a full time permanent Trainee Revenues Officer to join their busy team to assist with the billing, collection and recovery of Council tax.

Main responsibilities will include to train on the following areas of Council Tax:

  • Assessing liability to pay and ensuring customer accounts are accurate and up to date.

  • Undertake enquiries to identify discounts, exemptions and relief from Council tax.

  • Advising inspectors on empty properties or change of use.

  • Maintain up to date Council tax and Business rates accounts.

  • Monitoring and processing payments.

  • Collecting and enforcing payments through courts and other powers of collection.

  • Signposting customers to other services and departments.

  • Dealing with incoming and outgoing calls from customers.

An eye for detail will be essential and the successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent word processing and numeracy skills.

  • Strong verbal communication skills – able to liaise at all levels.

  • Demonstrable team working skills.

  • A good eye for detail and a meticulous approach to workloads.

  • The ability to work to strict deadlines in a performance driven environment. 

As part of the role, you will be working towards the Level 4 Revenues and Benefits Apprenticeship NVQ.

Relocation: For some vacancies (subject to criteria) a relocation scheme of up to £8,000 may be available if you are specifically relocating to the Isle of Wight to work with us OR if you choose to commute to the Isle of Wight daily, you may be eligible to have some travel costs reimbursed.
