WELCOME to the Sea View Yacht Club. The Sea View Yacht Club was established in 1893. Sailing and other boating activities have taken place off our clubhouse ever since. With our 130-year history, over 1900 members and the best sea views of any sailing club on the island, the SVYC offers the potential for endless happy times both on and off the water. The Club is open all year round for social activities. In the the summer season, we offer sailing and other boating throughout the day - as we are unrestricted by the tides. SAIL WITH US... We welcome new members of all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced sailors and offer a wide range of courses, training, racing and boats to sail in. Our young children start learning to sail in small dinghies such as Optimists while adults can give the sport a go or improve their skills in a range of different boats, many of which the club owns exclusively for members use, including the 13 identical keel boats that make up the Mermaid fleet. TRAIN WITH US... The SVYC is a RYA-accredited Sail Training Academy which delivers more than 1,200 course sessions to our members and to many island primary schools each year. Our Club is very family orientated and for many family members, Seaview has been a holiday destination for countless generations. Alongside our sail training, we run RYA powerboat, instructor, VHF radio, first aid and navigation courses from our Sail Training Academy. If you own a RIB or a yacht you can arrange a mooring with us, and, included in your annual membership is the use of the Club launch service - which runs daily throughout the summer. RACE WITH US... We are fortunate to own a fleet of keel boats - the Seaview Mermaids - which members race regularly from spring though to autumn, including competing at Cowes Week. Many members own one of more than 200 wooden clinker-built Sea View One-Design (SVOD) sailing dinghies. This unique class was founded in 1931, and is proud to be the largest locally built one-design dinghy class anywhere in the world. There are also Optimists, Teras, Picos, Toppers, Lasers, Fevas, Visions, Buzzes and Dart 16 Catamarans which can be rented by members at any time during the sailing season. If you have your own dinghy, we have a large dinghy park available for storage during the season, with very easy access to the water. SOCIALISE WITH US... The SVYC has a very active social calendar with discos for children, dances for adults, dinners for sailing groups and drinks parties for every occasion. We also have our amazing sea view rooms and outdoor spaces - which can be hired for weddings, parties and corporate events, with entertainment such as live music, cocktail mixologists and tempting menus all year round, whatever the weather. HAVE FUN WITH US... As well as sailing courses, we offer Cockles Club, an extremely popular few days of fun and activities catering for children from 3 to 7 years old - a lovely way for them and their parents and their grand-parents - to make new friends at the club. Other members activities include motorboating, with over 100 RIBs moored safely off the club, and also golf, tennis and ebiking. SOME HISTORY... 130 years ago, it was decided to establish a sailing club in Sea View, with the headquarters at the Pier Hotel - an imposing building next to the chain pier that was served by paddle steamers from the mainland - and in 1893, the Sea View Sailing Club was born, with the distinctive two inter- twined Ss relating to its original name still visible on the Club's burgee. Now known as the Sea View Yacht Club, and situated with spectacular views a little further west within the village, the Club has gone from strength to strength, with generations of members families returning every year to enjoy the unrivalled facilities, the social events and of course the wonderful sailing and boating activities.
