Elections and Local Land Charges Officer

Job Posted: 17 July 2025

Closing Date: 08 August 2025

37 hours per week

The Isle of Wight Council is seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic person to the exciting role of Elections and Local Land Charges Officer (Career Graded).

Please be aware that the short listing of candidates will not take place until the week beginning Monday 18 August 2025 and interviews will be held the week beginning Monday 1 September 2025.

This is a rare opportunity to gain valuable experience at the heart of the Council's democratic and regulatory process.

We are looking to appoint an individual with long-term potential, who demonstrates the ability (subject to a successful probationary period), to become a permanent full-time member of the team, where you will actively contribute to maximising electoral registration, assist with running both local and UK-wide elections, and ensure that searches of our local authority property databases are carried out to the highest of standards.

The successful candidate will possess or expect to obtain a minimum of 4 GCSE's, to include English Language and Mathematics, at a minimum of Grade C/4, and will ideally be educated to A-Level, hold Level 3 qualifications or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of work experience.

The ability to interpret maps at various scales would be useful, but not essential. You will receive training in all aspects of Local Land Charges and Elections work, and you will also study for the Association of Electoral Administrators Foundation Course and Certificate in Electoral Administration. You may also attend other mainland based Local Land Charges and Elections courses.

You will be confident, well organised, of smart appearance and be able to work occasionally flexible hours and always demonstrate discretion and confidentiality.

The Council will enrol you as a member of the Association of Electoral Administrators for the duration of your training, and you will enjoy corporate membership of the Local Land Charges Institute.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package including flexible working (subject to service requirements), a local government pension scheme, 32 days annual leave, employees discount benefits and access to a range of technologies to support modern ways of working.

For further information or an informal discussion, please contact Nolan Winter at 01983 823380 or email  [email protected]
