We are currently seeking two Coroner Officers to join our team on a permanent basis, providing support to HM Senior Coroner for the Isle of Wight in the execution of the Coroner's legal and public protection duties, in accordance with the Coroners and Justice Act 2009.

Candidates should have strong administration and communication skills, an eye for detail and be educated to at least A-level standard (or equivalent).

Knowledge and experience of the Coroners Service would be beneficial.

Duties will include:

·        Process referrals from multi agencies

·        Create and maintain up to date digital records.

·        Gather and provide accurate evidence to assist the Coroner.

·        In consultation with the HMC, open inquests.

·        Regularly liaise and update the next of kin of all referrals.

·        Inform and provide guidance as appropriate.

·        Ensure post-mortems are undertaken in a timely manner with the direction of HMC.

·        Collate and record evidence, produce a case file, witness lists, and disclosure bundles.

·       Assist in preparing and administering court proceedings for inquests.

Please note: The successful applicants will receive and process information relating to sudden, violent, suspicious, or unnatural deaths for which no death certificate has been issued.

Work location will be office based at the Council’s Seaclose Offices in Newport Isle of Wight.

Relocation: For some vacancies (subject to criteria) a relocation scheme of up to £8,000 may be available if you are specifically relocating to the Isle of Wight to work with us, or if you choose to commute to the Isle of Wight daily, you may be eligible to have some travel costs reimbursed.
