Location: Newport, Isle of Wight (Hybrid working available with office presence required)

Position Type: Permanent, Part-Time (Full-time options and additional responsibilities available upon discussion)

Salary: To be discussed based on experience

Hours: Flexible, with potential for up to 8 hours a day during peak campaign periods

Role Overview: The Isle of Wight Conservative Association is seeking a dynamic and skilled Communications and Campaign Manager to join our office team. This pivotal role will focus on delivering effective communications and supporting campaign efforts to enhance the association’s visibility and influence within the local community. We are looking for a proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced political environment, enjoys creative problem-solving, and can adapt to fluctuating workloads.

This is a permanent, part-time role with flexible working hours. There is potential for a full-time position depending on the candidate’s experience and interest in taking on additional responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Social Media & Digital Presence:
    • Develop and manage the association’s social media platforms, ensuring content aligns with the organisation’s messaging and strategy.
    • Create targeted, localised content that resonates with the community and highlights local issues.
    • Manage and update the association's website, ensuring all content—including press releases, statements, and event information—remains current and engaging.
  • Content Creation & Strategy:
    • Create content templates and strategies to support elected members and candidates, including election campaign materials and timelines.
    • Assist in the development of comprehensive communication strategies to aid the election process and ensure a clear, unified message across all channels.
  • Training & Support:
    • Provide training and guidance to members on setting up and managing social media accounts, emails, and other association platforms.
    • Offer support to candidates in creating and managing their own social media profiles during election periods.
  • Campaign & Event Management:
    • Assist with the planning and execution of political events, from venue booking to marketing and ticket sales.
    • Work closely with association officers to ensure events are relevant, engaging, and contribute to the overall campaign strategy.
  • Marketing & Branding:
    • Contribute to the design and production of marketing materials, including promotional content for events, campaigns, and the association’s initiatives.
    • Help maintain a fresh, positive, and youthful image for the association through effective marketing and communication strategies.
  • Press Relations & Media Coverage:
    • Build relationships with local media outlets to ensure regular, positive coverage of the association’s activities.
    • Draft press releases, manage media inquiries, and work to enhance the association’s public image.

Skills and Qualities Required:

  • Marketing & Campaign Management:
    • Strong experience in marketing and communication, ideally within a political or similar fast-paced environment. Ability to effectively promote candidates and initiatives while maintaining a positive, professional image.
  • Creativity & Innovation:
    • A creative mindset and the ability to generate new ideas to attract the electorate's attention and engage the community.
  • Teamwork & Leadership:
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team, while also demonstrating the initiative to lead projects independently when needed. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are essential.
  • Communication Expertise:
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to adapt messaging for various platforms and audiences.
  • Project Management:
    • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate will be able to take ownership of tasks and deliver them efficiently, meeting deadlines.

Additional Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a political environment or with community groups is advantageous.
  • A passion for local issues and the ability to represent the association’s values effectively.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and workload fluctuations, especially during campaign periods.
  • Undertake training to understand legal requirements for elections.
