We are excited to announce that we are building upon the commercial success achieved to date, and have an opportunity to join our rapidly expanding team as a Finance Project Controller.
The role supports Programme and Portfolio Management through the delivery of accurate financial reporting, forecasting, and ERP data management (SAP). It ensures financial transparency and control across projects while maintaining alignment with company financial strategy and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in financial data analysis within a technology-led manufacturing environment, with a proven history of implementing robust controls and delivering accurate reporting across cross-functional engineering, operations, and finance stakeholders. This is a finance-led role, focused on data, reporting, and financial performance. Accountability for project delivery, scope, and schedule remains with Project Managers.
Responsibilities & Tasks:
Financial Planning & Control
Produce monthly cost reports, tracking actuals vs forecast and highlighting variances, risks, and opportunities.
Monitor and analyse project margins, cost performance, and financial health.
Support operating cost and production cost analysis across programmes.
Contribute to financial planning, budgeting, and reforecasting cycles.
Report on financial aspects to senior leadership.
Check and manage the Value of Production (VOP), making sure production figures match financial records, and investigate and fix any differences.
ERP (SAP Business One) & Data Management
Ensure all projects are accurately set up and maintained in SAP B1, including cost centres and milestones.
Maintain and validate financial and operational project data within ERP systems.
Manage project booking points and allocate costs in line with key engineering and production milestones.
Audit ERP data to identify discrepancies and drive corrective actions.
Project & Portfolio Reporting (PMO Support)
Generate standardised PMO reports and dashboards for Programme, Portfolio, and senior management review.
Provide data-driven insights into project performance (cost, schedule trends, resource utilisation from a financial perspective).
Ensure consistency and integrity of portfolio-level data used in reporting.
Support Programme and Portfolio Managers with financial inputs for governance reviews
Cost Control & Analysis
Collect, validate, and challenge financial and operational data to ensure accuracy.
Deliver variance analysis (forecast vs actual) for Finance and PMO stakeholders.
Support the preparation of cost and pricing inputs for change requests.
Assist in financial risk identification and monitoring, ensuring alignment with provisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain to ensure financial alignment with production realities.
Support communication of financial performance to: Head of Programmes, CFO / Finance Director Programmes teams.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives across finance and PMO functions.
Continuous Improvement & Process Optimisation
Identify ways to improve project and cost control processes to make them more efficient and accurate.
Review current ways of working and suggest practical improvements to reduce delays and errors.
Work with engineering, production, and finance teams to streamline processes across projects.
Track the impact of process improvements and ensure changes are followed and maintained
Skills & Experience Required:
Essential
Experience in project finance, project control, or FP&A, ideally in manufacturing or defence
Strong working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP preferred)
Knowledge of managing project financials within a complex environment.
Advanced Excel / data analysis skills
Understanding of MOD accounting principles including RDEL, CDEL and VAT.
Understanding of project lifecycle and cost structures in engineering/manufacturing
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and data integrity mindset
Eligible to obtain and maintain Security Clearance for projects within the UK Defence Sector.
Desirable
Experience supporting PMO or programme environments.
Knowledge of defence or regulated industry requirements
Familiarity with earned value or project performance metrics (financial interpretation only)

Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)
Project Cost Variance Accuracy: measure how accurately costs are forecasted vs actuals.
On-Time Reporting & Data Integrity Rate: measure monthly project reports delivered on time and without data errors.
Project Margin Performance: Track actual project margin vs planned margin and report for finance oversight.
Schedule Adherence / Milestone Delivery: report project milestones (engineering & manufacturing) delivered on time.
ERP & Project Data Compliance: Ensure projects correctly set up and maintained in ERP (e.g., SAP B1), including cost centres, booking points, and reporting structures.
Full time 37.5 hrs per wk.
Salary dependant on experience / qualifications
Telephone Interviews for this role are likely to take place Week commencing 12th June and Face to Face interviews Week commencing 22nd & 29th June.
