Part Time Youth Support Worker - Bay Youth Centre - Sandown

To develop and deliver high quality and requested activities by young people, including sports, physical activity, music, arts and developmental opportunities in the new youth space and through outreach.

Deliver sessions to meet the personal and social development needs of young people, primarily aged 10-25 years.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

There is an expectation that core delivery working hours will include evenings, school holidays and the occasional weekends.

The postholder is expected to undertake other duties and responsibilities relevant to the post.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Strong organisational skills, including time keeping and digital record keeping
  • Strong team-working skills, including working with different staff members and partners.
  • Strong communication skills, including in person, with young people, team members and partner agencies.
  • Good digital skills
  • Passionate in supporting young people to access sports, arts and developmental opportunities, especially those who face barriers and challenges in their life
  • Ability to travel to the Bay area for work.

Desirable experience and skills

  • Experience of working within youth work, education sector or other relevant experience.
  • Sports coaching qualifications and or experience

Duties:

Relationships

  • Take responsibility for sharing good practice with others
  • Work collaboratively and professionally alongside other staff, volunteers and community partners; building on their experience and strengths to fulfil the purpose of this job description.
  • Build excellent relationships with the young people based on best professional practice, by offering support, seeking to listen carefully to identify their interests, goals, concerns & challenges, and helping them to grow in confidence, develop skills, and attain aspirations.
  • Reach out to new young people, enabling them to become fully engaged in the life of the centre.
  • Assist with overseeing of volunteers in order to facilitate youth centre activities.
  • Build effectively on existing community links and continue to develop the positive reputation of the youth centre within the neighbouring community.

Teamwork

  • To take responsibility for sharing good practice with others
  • To actively contribute to the development of the organisation through a personal and professional commitment to teamwork.
  • To work collaboratively and effectively with all team members and stakeholders, ensuring effective communication.

Centre Governance

  • To share youth voice led approaches within the youth centre.
  • To facilitate and support young people to share their views with the centre.
  • To assist the centre management in their development, interpretation, implementation, review and evaluation of centre policies including youth participation.

Personal and Professional Management

  • Take full responsibility for managing time and work whilst remaining up to date professionally and developing personally.
  • Develop effective personal time management skills, including managing stress.
  • Actively engage in personal and professional development within a framework of needs as agreed with managers.
  • Be aware of CAIW policies and processes and responsibilities for implementation.
  • Actively participate in appraisal and performance review.
  • Promote and ensure good behaviour among children and young people participating.
  • Undertake responsibilities around child safeguarding, Health and Safety, equality and diversity and ensuring young people’s wellbeing.
  • To attend meetings commensurate with the role.

Community Action Isle of Wight (CAIW) exists to promote and organise co-operation in the achievement of any charitable objective purpose for the benefit of the communities, in the furtherance of health, environmental improvement, and for the relief of poverty, distress, disability and sickness. The Bay Youth Project developed and delivered by CAIW was set up in early 2021, in response to an identified need and provides FREE services for young people, living or educated in the Bay area.
