Learning Resources Centre Assistant

Job Posted: 9 September 2024

Closing Date: 23rd September 2024

These are exciting times for the Isle of Wight College as we continue to build on our outstanding reputation and work towards our strategic aim to be the lead post-16 education provider on the Isle of Wight.

An opportunity has arisen to join our enthusiastic Learning Resources team. The College’s Learning Resources Centre (LRC) is an exceptional facility with an outstanding customer service record. We need an LRC Assistant to support staff and students in their use of learning resources, both print-based and online. We are looking for someone who is friendly, approachable and makes our students feel welcome.

This post is contracted for 10 hours per week, 38 weeks per year (term-time only). These 10 hours will be worked as two 5-hour shifts to include a Monday. There are also 30 hours per year available to cover team holidays, college events and to attend staff development activities.

The emphasis for this role is on customer service. You will be staffing the LRC helpdesk and dealing with enquiries, so you must be able to communicate with a variety of ages and abilities. It is important that you have empathy with young people. You must also have strong attention to detail as you will be responsible for clerical tasks such as processing new resources, inputting data into our catalogue and ensuring the stock is in order on the shelves.

You must be qualified to level 2 in English and maths. A high level of IT information literacy is crucial as you will be supporting students in their use of computers whilst they are in the LRC. You must have experience in customer service; it would be advantageous but not essential to have experience of working in an administrative, library or education environment.
