Medina College is seeking an ambitious, courageous and highly effective Deputy Head of School to join our Senior Leadership Team and lead strategically across Safeguarding, Behaviour, Attendance and Inclusion.
This is a key leadership role for an individual who is passionate about creating a school community where every pupil is safe, known, valued and able to learn and achieve. As our Designated Safeguarding Lead and Senior Attendance Champion, you will have a significant influence on the culture, systems and practices that enable our pupils to thrive.
Working closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, you will provide clear strategic direction across safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and inclusion, ensuring that high expectations, positive relationships, consistent routines and appropriate support are embedded across the school. You will be responsible for ensuring that these areas work together effectively, recognising the strong links between safeguarding, attendance, behaviour, inclusion, belonging and achievement.
You will also line manage and provide leadership to the Assistant Headteacher – Behaviour and Culture, Assistant Headteacher/SENDCo and Inclusion Manager, building leadership capacity and ensuring that agreed priorities are delivered effectively. Through robust quality assurance, use of data and evidence, and a strong understanding of the needs of our pupils, you will identify priorities, challenge practice where necessary and secure sustained improvement.
About Us
Medina College, on the historic and beautiful Isle of Wight, is proud to be one school across two sites – our 11–16 site and our post-16 site, The Island VI Form.
Across Medina and The VI Form, we share a commitment to supporting one another, working collaboratively and always putting students first. We are ambitious for our pupils and believe that every young person should be supported to overcome barriers, develop confidence and achieve their potential.
Medina College is a member of HISP Multi Academy Trust, a forward-thinking educational community whose purpose is the provision of courageous, transformative education for all.
Our values of Ambition, Courage, Confidence and Kindness underpin our approach to school life. We are looking for a senior leader who will model these values through their leadership, decision-making and relationships with pupils, colleagues and families.
About You
You will be an experienced and inspirational senior leader with a strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and inclusion. You will have the confidence to challenge and hold others to account, while building positive and productive relationships across the school.
You will bring excellent judgement, resilience and a clear commitment to putting pupils first. You will be able to analyse information, identify priorities and turn strategy into meaningful and measurable improvement. You will understand that high expectations and effective support are not competing principles, and will be passionate about ensuring that vulnerable pupils and those facing barriers to learning receive the support they need to succeed.
Above all, we are looking for a leader who is visible, calm, decisive and collaborative, who can inspire confidence in others and who is committed to creating a school culture where pupils feel safe, valued and ambitious for their future.
