CLERK TO GOVERNORS

Salary: Hay Grade 6 - £26,825 - £28,142 per annum (full-time equivalent)

£4,183 - £4,388 per annum, actual

Hours per week: This is a permanent post for 300 hours per year (5.77 hours per week on a 52 week contract)

As the Clerk to Governors, you will be accountable to the Governing Body and will work effectively with the Chair of Governors, the Headteacher and other Governors. You will be responsible for advising the Governing Body on constitutional matters, duties and powers and will work within the broad current legislative framework, ensuring the continuity of Governing Body business within confidentiality requirements.

You will be expected to take notes and prepare minutes for all Governing Body meetings and specialist Governor panels, indicating who is responsible for any agreed action, and recording all decisions accurately and objectively with timescales for actions.

We currently have a full Governor’s meeting every month in term-time, and three Executive Committee meetings per year, all of which you are required to attend.  Governor meetings are held from 4pm onwards, however Executive meetings are normally held during the day.  All timings could be subject to change, with reasonable notice.

The rest of the contracted hours can be worked flexible according to personal circumstances and the needs of the school.

It is essential candidates are able to demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of Governing Body procedures, educational legislation (including guidance and legal requirements) and the roles and responsibilities of a Governing Body, Headteacher, local authority and DfE
  • Demonstrable experience in record keeping, minute taking and writing agendas
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to be flexible with working hours
