Chessell Woodyard is the Isle of Wights Largest Timbermill. Established for over 10 years we supply not only Island but also Mainland customers with timber products all milled from Naturally Durable Timbers. Through natural growth we are looking for an outstanding individual to join our team to head up our Woodyard operation.
You will be a highly motivated individual with a positive attitude who enjoys working outside and achieving results. From driving Agricultural vehicles to operating milling machinery this unique postion is crucial to our operation moving forward.
Woodyard Supervisor Purpose
The Woodyard Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day to day operations of the Woodyard. Working under the direction of the General Manager, this position supervises, coordinates and accomplishes assigned tasks to safely and effectively supervise efficient Woodyard deadlines and operations.
Job Description
- Sets and communicates direction, engage and support team members to achieve efficiency and performance in all areas.
- Leads safety performance. Operate to highest standards and comply with all regulations and policies. Sustain a rigorous safety culture through personal example.
- Responsible for maintaining quality of log inventory, log rotation, log sorting and managing the efficient flow of logs necessary to meet sawmill flow demands.
- Responsible for the operation, maintenance and service of all log yard equipment, rolling stock, and log yard facility.
- Communicate with the mill operations, Log procurement, and the mill team to ensure correct product mix is being achieved to maximize efficiency.
- Ensure all log yard personnel and contractors follow all safety rules and procedures at all times including safe and efficient operation of equipment.
- Work with management team to improve processes.
- Optimize overall log yard layout to achieve maximum utilization and volume efficiency.
- Communicate with Management all manufacturing and sorting issues.
- Work allocation for staff
- Occasional travel to our other sites
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Strong commitment to safety with a desire for constant improvement.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage challenging personalities and situations.
- Strong computer skills utilizing Windows based programs and Microsoft Office and Google Sheets.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Additional Knowledge and Skills Desired
- Education and/or experience in Forestry, Timber Industry or Manufacturing/Engineering advantageous
