Job Purpose

The Small Works Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating small construction projects from start to completion. The role ensures that work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards while maintaining excellent communication with clients, subcontractors, and the project management team.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day site operations on small works projects.
  • Plan, organise, and allocate labour, plant, and materials efficiently.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and ensure work is completed to specification.
  • Monitor project progress and report updates to the Contracts Manager.
  • Ensure all work complies with health and safety legislation and company policies.
  • Conduct site inductions, toolbox talks, and regular safety inspections.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality control.
  • Identify and resolve site issues promptly to minimise delays.
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders professionally.
  • Ensure materials are ordered and delivered as required.
  • Complete daily site records, progress reports, and photographic records where required.
  • Ensure sites are kept clean, organised, and secure.
  • Assist with project planning, programming, and handover documentation.
  • Promote a positive working environment and lead by example.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Carry out risk assessments and implement safe systems of work.
  • Monitor the use of PPE and safe working practices.
  • Report accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly.
  • Stop unsafe work where necessary and take corrective action.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Foreman or Site Supervisor within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods and building regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple small projects simultaneously.
  • Good organisational and problem-solving abilities.

Desirable

  • Experience with refurbishment, maintenance, and reactive works.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and digital project management systems.
  • Temporary Works or Asbestos Awareness training.
