About the role:
Are you proactive, motivated, professional and friendly? We're looking for someone who is passionate and diligent to join our team as an Apprentice Painter and Decorator in September 2026.
Working as a great team player, you'll assist your mentor in carrying out painting and decorating works to Stoneham Construction projects in an efficient and effective manner ensuring that all works are in accordance to a good building maintenance practice.
Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, so it’s very important your customer service skills are top notch - we want to always go above and beyond and amaze our customers with the services we provide.
Your day will include:
- Developing skills relevant to painting and decorating to support the maintenance and standard of our housing stock.
- Understanding health and safety requirements and other relevant legislation and Codes of Practice.
- Being supported by your supervisor and a mentor.
- Attending college and completing all course work on time and to a high standard.
- Working on projects such as social housing, heritage buildings, schools, colleges and commercial buildings

What do we expect to see from you?
This is a starting role, so we don’t need qualifications or experience… that’s what we’re here for. But there are a few key behaviours and skills we want to see from our candidates; and these are ones that if you possess and can demonstrate; you will make this work placement a real success!
• A commitment to own learning and development and ready to complete the training on offer.
• Ability to work well as part of a small team.
• Ability to demonstrate customer care and to be polite and courteous.
• Able to follow instructions and health and safety guidelines.
• Good communication skills.
• Good attendance.
• Excellent time keeping.
· A driving licence would be desirable.
Apprenticeship Standard:
· Painter and Decorator Level 2 Apprenticeship standard.
· Duration of the Apprenticeship will be 24 months + 3 months for the end point assessment.
· Functional Skills in Maths and English are required and if not previously achieved GCSE grade 4/C or above.
· Alongside your practical daily work, you’ll take part in off-the-job training hours—dedicated time within your working week to develop your knowledge, skills, and behaviours through any new/online learning and attendance at The Isle of Wight College.
· Weekly attendance at The Isle of Wight College as part of the apprenticeship.
Working Week:
· 40 hours per week.
Wage:
· £8.03 per hour (£16,702.4 per annum)
