The Maintenance Team Member is responsible for ensuring that all supported accommodation homes are safe, secure, well-presented, and fully compliant with health and safety standards.
You will carry out a range of planned and reactive maintenance duties to support the day-to-day running of the homes.
This role is vital in maintaining high living standards for young people, ensuring that the environment remains welcoming, safe, and conducive to promoting their independence and well-being.
You will contribute directly to creating an environment where young people feel respected, valued, and secure.
Maintenance and Repairs
- Carry out a variety of planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance tasks across supported accommodation homes.
- Complete general repairs including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, and minor electrical work.
- Ensure all works are completed to a high standard and in line with health and safety regulations.
- Safely handle tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring minimal disruption to young people and staff.
Health and Safety
- Conduct regular property checks, including fire alarm tests, emergency lighting checks, and security inspections.
- Identify hazards and carry out risk assessments related to maintenance tasks.
- Maintain safe working practices, using PPE and following health and safety protocols at all times.
- Report serious maintenance issues immediately and escalate appropriately.
Property Compliance and Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, repairs carried out, and inspections completed.
- Keep maintenance logs up to date for internal and Ofsted compliance.
- Support the preparation of properties for inspections, Regulation 44 visits, and Ofsted monitoring visits.
Supporting Young People and Staff
- Set up new placements by preparing rooms and communal areas as needed.
- Respond sensitively and professionally to maintenance needs raised by staff or young people.
- Maintain professional boundaries and promote a positive living environment for young people at all times.
Contractor Liaison
- Liaise with approved external contractors for specialist repairs, ensuring work is carried out to high standards.
- Assist with obtaining quotes and monitoring contractor performance where required.
General Responsibilities
- Attend mandatory training courses (e.g., safeguarding, health and safety, GDPR).
- Be available for out-of-hours emergency call-outs if required (rota system).
- Carry out any additional reasonable duties to support the service as directed by management.
