Job Overview

Are you a qualified dispenser looking for a new challenge in a rural General Practice setting?

The dispensing role in a GP practice is a more varied and manageable role than community pharmacy. You will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills, great job satisfaction and no weekend working. 

South Wight Medical Practice is a small rural GP on the Isle of Wight. We are the only dispensing practice on the Isle of Wight, and we are based across three sites in the villages of Brighstone, Godshill and Niton.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Experience in a pharmacy or dispensary setting
• NVQ 2 in Pharmacy Skills or equivalent
• A full driving licence due to working across three sites
• Flexibility to cover holiday and sickness

Responsibilities will include

• Processing prescriptions according to a strict protocol
• Dispensing prescriptions
• Maintaining good relationships with patients as well as with team members and GPs
• Keeping complete and accurate records for controlled drugs
• Work closely with GPs to help with medication queries, and checking authorisation limits
• Endorsing prescription forms as appropriate
• To fully observe legal and regulatory requirements relevant to dispensing in general practice
• Checking colleagues dispensing
• Operate an effective stock control, appropriate to the needs of the dispensary. Ordering stock from suppliers adhering to a strict stock ordering protocol.
