A.J. Wells & Sons Ltd. is an award-winning UK based manufacturing business with international markets. We design and make Charnwood wood burning stoves, Vlaze outdoor kitchens and an array of signage and cladding - including the iconic signs for London Underground and the Paris Metro.
Due to current demand and ongoing expansion, we are excited to be looking for a Part-Qualified Management Accountant  to join the finance team. 

Job Specification 

Job Title: Management Accountant (Part-Qualified)  

Location: Isle of Wight 

Reports to: Head of Finance 

Hours: 40 Hours a week 

Role Overview 

This role is for a key member of the Finance department, having a knowledge of all the primary roles within the team. The ideal candidate will be part-qualified in ACCA/CIMA or equivalent, detail-orientated, and comfortable communicating in French (this would be desirable but not essential) 

Key Responsibilities 

Credit Control & Accounts Receivable 

  • Monitor customer accounts and follow up on overdue balances to maintain cash flow. 
  • Allocate incoming payments and reconcile customer ledgers. 
  • Liaise with customers to resolve payment queries and ensure timely collections. 
  • Oversee the end-to-end administration of in-house Direct Debit collections, ensuring timely processing. 
  • Assist project managers in raising invoices. 

General Accounting Duties 

  • Support monthly reporting cycles with timely and accurate information. 
  • Support the Finance Accountant in their daily responsibilities, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, providing guidance on best practices, assisting with professional development and monitoring performance to ensure adherence to internal controls and financial policies. 
  • Assist the Finance Director with ad hoc financial projects, including process improvements, financial modelling and strategic analysis. 
  • Drive improvements in financial processes, controls and documentation 

Customs Documentation & International Trade 

  • Prepare and review documentation for overseas customs clearance, including direct representation forms and declarations. 
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders and customs agents to ensure compliance with EU and UK import/export regulations. 
  • Support the preparation of documentation for bonded warehouse, inward processing and DDP/DAP shipments. 

Overseas VAT Compliance 

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of overseas VAT returns, particularly for France and Ireland. 
  • Maintain accurate VAT records and liaise with fiscal representatives where required. 
  • Monitor changes in VAT legislation affecting EU and non-EU trade and support internal compliance efforts. 

Desirable Skills & Experience 

  • Part-qualified in ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent. 
  • Experience in credit control or accounts receivable. 
  • Working knowledge of customs procedures and international shipping documentation. 
  • Familiarity with overseas VAT processes, including French CA3 returns and fiscal representation. 
  • Fluency in French (written and spoken) is highly desirable. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and working knowledge of ERP Systems
