Position : Business Development Manager

Permanent : 40 hours per week

Salary : OTE 60K (Base salary 40K and commission up to 20K) 

UKSA is a maritime charity that uses the power of the sea to transform the lives of thousands of young people. Schools & Youth groups visit us throughout the year, with thousands of children and young people enjoying an unforgettable experience exploring the water on dinghies, paddleboards, kayaks and more. 2024 has been a year of growth with many exciting changes.  

We have a new opportunity for a Business Development Manager to join our Sales and Marketing Team. This role has the option for hybrid working.

The main purpose will be at the forefront of UKSA’s growth strategy to increase the impact and career outcomes of the people that study with us. You will be responsible for identifying and developing long-lasting strategic business relationships with a range of organisations. This includes; Multi Academy Trusts (MAT); industry employers; maritime charities, youth groups, and teaching professionals.

Taking a proactive, results driven approach, you’ll leverage your network, industry knowledge, and persuasive skills to drive revenue growth. This role is ideal for someone who is driven by a competitive working environment and thrives on securing high-value partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Business Development Strategies: Develop and execute long term engagement strategies to identify, build and maintain key partnerships to support UKSA’s growth strategy and income targets.
  • Lead generation: Generate leads and bookings across the UKSA portfolio, ensuring prospective students align with the strategic ambitions of excellence, quality and careers.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues in the Sales & Marketing Team to transition and embed partnerships, supporting booking and operational delivery. Ensuring there are sustainable and long-term management processes in place to retain customers.
  • Engagement, presentations and negotiation: Through both in person and virtual meetings and events, proactively engage key stakeholders and customers. Deliver persuasive presentations showcasing tailored UKSA packages, and negotiate contracts, and terms and conditions, to ensure the successful conversion of leads into income generating, mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Representing UKSA: Visit maritime hubs across Europe and attend industry and sector events. Represent UKSA at relevant conferences, shows and networking events, to build strategic relationships, expand professional networks and promote UKSA, across the UK, Europe and Internationally.  
  • MATs and youth organisations: Working with the CEO and key stakeholders, develop strategic long-term relationships with MATs and youth organisations. Drive sales and recruitment of students onto UKSA youth and development programs.
  • Mainland delivery partnerships: Working closely with the Director of Training and Operations, identify and develop main land delivery partnerships to widen UKSA’s reach to deliver development programs across the UK.
  • Industry Employers and Apprenticeships: Develop relationships with industry employers to grow the UKSA apprenticeship offering. Support industry with the recruitment of apprentices, through hosting employer selection days.  
  • Industry Professionals: Develop relationships with industry professionals to inform new course development and drive new and repeat business of our professional MCA programmes. Rasing awareness of the quality of our training and graduate outcomes.
  • Funded Beneficiaries - Working closely with the Fundraising Team, build partnerships with relevant organisations to ensure a pipeline of beneficiaries that meet funder criteria, including UKSA’s flagship Cadetship programme. 
  • Additional initiatives: - Any other tasks required by the Director of Sales and Marketing to support the delivery of annual sales targets, including out of hours and weekend working.
