The Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team overseeing locomotives, Carriages, wagons, estates and rail infrastructure at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Key responsibilities
- Manage and lead the engineering department to ensure the safe and efficient operation of locomotives, carriages, wagons, estates and rail infrastructure.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and engineering plans to enhance operational reliability and minimise downtime.
- Oversee the condition and maintenance of estates and rail infrastructure, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and standards.
- Co-ordination of all four departments to ensure that they support each other and the wider organisation, ensuring competency and capability.
- Project planning and execution.
- Devise and monitor KPI’s to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of each department
- Working closely with the operations team to ensure that the engineering departments can support the operational railway, carriage and wagon availability and maintenance of infrastructure
- Develop an engineering business plan to support the overall Railway business plan, and ensuring succession planning is in place across all departments.
- Identify key roles and assess the availability of volunteers to ensure the Railway is resourced to its full potential.
- Lead a team of engineers and technical staff, providing mentorship, guidance, and support for professional development.
- Prepare and manage budgets for engineering projects, and ensure effective allocation of resources.
- Compile reports on performance, safety, and compliance; present findings to senior management and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in rail engineering and management , with specific knowledge of locomotives, carriages and wagons.
- Strong understanding of rail infrastructure.
