Are you passionate about making a difference in animal welfare while using your financial expertise to help guide a well-respected charity? We’re looking for a Finance Trustee to join our board, playing a crucial role in ensuring the financial sustainability and strategic direction of the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary.
As a Trustee, you will share responsibility for the overall governance of the charity, ensuring that we stay true to our mission, comply with legal and regulatory obligations and use our resources effectively. You will work closely with the other trustees and the CEO to set strategic goals and ensure that the sanctuary remains financially stable and sustainably managed.
As Finance Trustee, your specific responsibilities will include:
- Taking the lead in reviewing and discussing financial performance and key issues at trustee meetings.
- Collaborating with the CEO and finance team on financial planning and reporting.
- Providing strategic financial guidance to the Board to ensure long-term sustainability.
- Reviewing budgets and key performance indicators to support effective decision-making.
- Overseeing the sanctuary’s reserves and advising on investment policies to safeguard its financial future.
- Preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and working with auditors to ensure compliance and timely approval.
- Ensuring financial controls and risk management processes are in place and regularly reviewed.
This role allows you to directly impact the sanctuary’s future by guiding its financial health and advising on critical decisions, while the day-to-day financial operations are handled by the sanctuary's staff.

Time commitment
The role of Trustee is unremunerated, but reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed. The time commitment may vary month to month but includes attending up to six board meetings a year, along with occasional sub-committee and strategy meetings. We appreciate that everyone has busy lives, but a consistent level of involvement is important to ensure the sanctuary’s continued success and effective governance.
