First Line IT Support Apprentice - WRS Systems
Here at The Isle of Wight College we work with a number of employers, in a vast array of industries. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work for WRS Systems as a First Line Support Apprentice.
Based in Newport, WRS Systems offer tailored EPOS solutions to the hospitality sector which include installation, servicing and on-site training. WRS Systems are committed to providing innovative, reliable and secure systems to businesses large and small, from national multi-site retail chains to local independent retailers.
Their reputation is built on a personal, flexible and reliable approach, tailoring every system to suit even the most demanding retail and hospitality environment.
WRS Systems supply a number of large UK companies including over two hundred Costa Coffee franchisees. Macro Wholesalers use WRS Systems throughout their 35 stores in the UK and have a long standing relationship with them. They have also supplied Epos terminals to the UK’s largest Asian Supermarket – PAK Supermarket in Birmingham, helping them not only with full training but with full support on their opening.
They are now looking for a proactive and inquisitive first line support apprentice to work within a varied role that involves offering telephone customer support and direct remote customer support.
Working alongside the support team, the successful candidate will be working towards a Level 2 IT Applications Specialist Apprenticeship.
Tasks and responsibilities will include:
- IT, Telecoms
- Using various software to complete tasks
- First line customer support
- Working with call systems and IT databases logging calls and queries
- Customer service to all profiles of customers that ring daily
Personal, Essential Qualities
- Wants a career in IT
- Keen to learn
- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
- Ability to retain knowledge
- Highly self-motivated
GCSE grade C/4 or above in English & Maths (or equivalent qualification and/or ability to work towards these Functional Skills)
- Level 2 NVQ IT Applications Specialist
- Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT if required
- Employment Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
To start with during the training period, the working hours will be:
- Monday – Friday – 9am – 5.30pm
After training is provided (usually between 3 – 6 months) the apprentice will participate in a rota scheme of shifts, along with the support team, where weekend work will also be required
- To be determined at interview
Rather excitingly, there is the opportunity for development within the support team and across the business to progress to different roles to fulfil a career after completion of the Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship duration will be 12 – 18 months.
The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.70 per hour. This applies to 16-18-year-old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. Once qualified, there may be an opportunity to progress to a permanent role within the business, dependent on suitability and opportunity at that time.
