Here at The Isle of Wight College we work with a number of employers, in a vast array of industries. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work for Ryde School as an Apprentice Groundsperson to start work in August 2017.

In conjunction with the Isle of Wight College, the apprentice will work towards a Level 2 Diploma on Work-based Horticulture (Sports Turf – Green keeper).

The job is for 37.5 hrs per week, working between 0800 and 1630 hrs Mondays to Thursdays and 0800 to 1600 hrs on Fridays.

There may be some limited weekend work, with a compensating reduction in hours worked during the week.  There will be a 6 month probationary period – at this stage the School is unable to guarantee employment at the end of the 2 year period.

Normal apprentice rates of £3.50 per hour will apply.  Training and uniform will be provided.

In addition to grounds work – predominantly sports pitch preparation, mowing and strimming - the apprentice will assist other staff with the preparation of School venues and other general maintenance tasks, particularly during the winter months.

The ideal candidate will be fit, clean, hard-working and enthusiastic with a good sense of humour.  They should enjoy working outdoors, not suffer from any plant-based allergies, be self-starting and be equally happy working either on their own (following a period of close supervision) or in a team.

Candidates should have a full driving licence and be mechanically-minded.
