Here at The Isle of Wight College we work with a number of employers, in a vast array of industries. We currently have not one, but TWO fantastic opportunities to work as an Apprentice Care Assistant for a well-respected residential home in Ventnor.

Located on a bus route in Ventnor on The Isle of Wight, we are very excited to offer two amazing opportunities to join this team as an Apprentice Care assistant working towards a Health & Social Care Apprenticeship qualification.

This employer has a great track record of successfully training apprentices, and they have excellent staff retention rates. This apprenticeship could lead to full time employment for the right person.

There is also an opportunity to progress in this role; learning how to write care plans and assisting the Care Manager in day-to-day admin duties.

This apprenticeship is designed to give you a set of competencies, work experience and a qualification within a professional care environment. Working alongside other care professionals, and working within established guidelines, you will be expected to support the delivery of individualised care to patients.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Assisting residents to get up, dressing and preparing them for their day
  • Washing, bathing, showering, oral care, grooming
  • Assisting with meal times
  • Engaging in activities for the patients
  • Toileting, assisting with use of commode, emptying commode
  • Continence management
  • Using manual handling equipment as specified
  • Assisting with prescribed medication
  • Bed making and laundry
  • Housekeeping duties

 Qualifications Required

  • GCSE grade D or above in English & Maths (or equivalent qualification) 

Apprenticeship Framework

  • Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship

Working Week

  • 30-40 hours per week
  • Day release at College

 Apprenticeship duration will be 12 – 18 months.

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. Once qualified, there may be an opportunity to progress to a Level 3 Apprenticeship (if you start on a L2), work towards a senior carer level, and full time employment - depending on suitability / need.
