Located on Egypt Hill in the heart of Cowes we are very excited to offer an amazing opportunity to join the team at The Moorings residential as an Apprentice Care assistant working towards a Health & Social Care Apprenticeship qualification.

A stone’s throw away from the esplanade and with fantastic views over the Solent, The Moorings residential retirement home are passionate about offering a service that ensures security, support and, most importantly, quality care.

Operating under the same ownership since 1990, The Moorings residential are growing their provision and are looking for a passionate individual with a genuine care for others to join their friendly team working night shifts. Due to legislative guidelines, this Apprenticeship position is open for anyone aged 19 and over.

This apprenticeship is designed to give you a set of competencies, work experience and a qualification within a professional care environment. Working alongside other care professionals, and working within established guidelines, you will be expected to support the delivery of individualised care to patients.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Working x2 12-hour night shifts (8am-8pm) and one sleep in shift per week (8pm – 11pm then 5am – 8am)
  • Assisting customers to get up, dressing and preparing them for their day
  • Washing, bathing, showering, oral care, grooming
  • Toileting, assisting with use of commode, emptying commode
  • Continence management
  • Using manual handling equipment as specified
  • Assisting with prescribed medication
  • Assist customers to go to bed, including undressing and washing
  • Completing night checks on patients
  • Bed making and laundry

  • Must be 19 years old or over

 Qualifications Required

GCSE grade C or above in English & Maths (or equivalent qualification) 

Apprenticeship Framework

  • Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English, if required
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

Working Week

  • This will be working x2 12-hour night shifts (8am-8pm) and one sleep in shift per week (8pm – 11pm then 5am – 8am) including weekends
  • You will also attend The Isle of Wight College one day a week as part of the qualification

Wage

  • Dependant on experience

 

Apprenticeship duration will be 12 – 18 months.

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. Once qualified, there may be an opportunity to progress to a Level 3 Apprenticeship and/or full time employment, depending on suitability / need.
