The Democratic Services Team is at the heart of the Council.  We provide a wide range of democratic services to elected members.  

As a member of the team, you will be accountable for a range of responsibilities, primarily ensuring compliance with legal requirements, constitutional provisions, corporate protocols and business practices in respect of agenda preparation, the recording of executive decisions, minute writing, report writing and document publication in pursuance of the Council’s policies of openness and transparency.

Accurate and reliable advice is essential in response to Committee and Panel chairmen, vice chairmen, all Councillors and senior managers in respect of the Council’s Constitution, statutory provisions underpinning the Council’s democratic framework and the operation of corporate protocols.

Possessing effective communication skills together with the ability to prioritise and manage one’s own work is essential. We are therefore looking for a personable and enthusiastic individual, who is highly organised, can work on their own initiative, meet tight deadlines and be accurate.

In addition you will play a significant role in supporting, and administering, the work of the Independent School Appeal Panels, attending hearings and advising Panel Members. Knowledge or understanding of, school admission appeals legislation, processes and codes of practice would be an advantage.

You will approach tasks proactively, with confidence and diplomacy.  Using your inter-personal and IT skills you can contribute to the future development and strengthening of our services.

Three A Levels (to include English language)/City and Guilds Level 3/ BTEC in Business Administration, (or equivalent qualification), or equivalent experience of working in an office environment is required. An opportunity will be provided to attend relevant personal and professional development training courses.
