A great opportunity has arisen to become an Administration Apprentice for an established and well respected General Practice in Ventnor.
Grove House Surgery is a Medical Practice in the heart of the town who puts their patients very much at the heart of what they do so, providing them them with excellent customer service and a friendly and efficient environment is of the highest importance. Grove House Surgery have supported Apprentices over the past few years and have offered some of them positions of secure employment on completion of the Apprenticeship. It is very much in their ethos to do this again for the right candidate.
The practice has a low staff turnover, some members of staff have worked there for over 20 years so it is a happy and un pressured place to work and learn.

The role of the Apprentice
Performing basic day to day administration duties to start but as competence increases, some experience within different non clinical departments will be given to ensure that the apprentice has a good all round knowledge of the practice and how it works.
Duties will include:
  • Providing excellent Reception duties 
  • Photocopying medical records
  • Emailing 
  • Scanning 
  • Sending out written correspondance
  • Completing letters via templates
  • Dealing with answerphone messages
  • Booking pateient appointments
  • Communicating effectively with patients in a friendly and calm manner
  • Using IT Skills to complete tasks on the bespoke software - training will be given
  • IT Skills: Word, Excel, Outlook. Producing computerised prescriptions
  • Filing 
  • Providing support to the Office Manager and various departments as directed 
  • Handling the post 
  • Answering phone calls 
  • Tea and Coffee making (staff take this in turns)
  • Taking messages 
  • Customer Service
  • Adhering to strict confidentiality rules

  • Dealing with patient queries as and when they arise
  • Asking the right questions to get as much information as possible

Apprenticeship Framework:
  • Intermediate (Level 2) NVQ in Business Administration or Advanced (Level 3) Business Administration depending on experience. There will be 1 day release per week for the Apprentice to attend The Isle of Wight College
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT if required
  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
Qualifications Required:
  • GCSE grade C or above or 4/5 in English & Maths
Working Week:
  • 30 hours per week (min) Monday to Friday. There will be a shift system to cover the opening hours 08:00 – 18:30 (There will not be any spilt shifts)
Weekly Wage:
  • £135.00 (£4.50 per hr) – Potential for increase on competence of tasks, units and growing skills level
The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. There is a potential for secure employment and/or progression to a level 3 Apprenticeship upon completion of Level 2 apprenticeship – Apprenticeship duration 12 to 18 months
