Here at The Isle of Wight College we work with a number of employers, in a vast array of industries. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Accounting Apprentice at Harrison Black Chartered Accountants.

Harrison Black is a well established and renowned Accounting firm. Formed in 1905, Harrison Black is a leading firm of Chartered Accountants located on the Isle of Wight.

They employ around 24 staff and their accountants have the experience and expertise to deal with all aspects of today's business requirements.

As a result of continuing expansion at their Newport offices, they are now looking for an enthusiastic and numerate person to train as an Accounting Apprentice.

The post will involve assisting with accounts preparation and audit for a wide range of clients. Training will be given, however, previous relevant work experience would be preferred, but not essential.                                                              

The individual must be computer literate, with experience of Excel.  A knowledge of Iris and Sage would also be an advantage, but is not essential.                                                     

Based in a professional office, your tasks will include:

  • Answering phone calls
  • Customer Service
  • Liaising with customers / clients
  • Gathering and summarising accounts information
  • Invoice processing
  • Accounts preparation

 Minimum Qualifications

A grade C or above in Maths and English or equivalent or the ability to gain these skills is essential.

Candidates who have completed a previous AAT qualification would be at an advantage.

Apprenticeship Framework

  • Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and IT if required.

 Working Week

Full Time - 37.5 hrs per week Monday to Friday with One Half Day per week being based at the college.

Wage

TBC - Discussed at Interview

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. Once qualified, there may be an opportunity to progress to full time employment, depending on suitability / need.

Apprenticeship duration will be 12 - 18 months.
