We have a challenging and uniquely rewarding opportunity for a qualified care / health professional to take this team of support workers forward in the continuation of their consistent care plan.

This employer requires a strong leader who is capable, confident and empathetic to the needs of their client.  The existing support team provide high level, 24-hour care in the clients’ own home, and they enable this client to engage in regular activities, including substantial overseas travel. The Team Leader will be the ‘bridge’ between this support team and their client.

This is not a management only position, the Team Leader is very much expected to lead from the front, acting as a support worker on shift as well as undertaking management responsibilities. As a result, applicants must be ‘physically fit to work’ in order to undertake manual handling duties and to work with complex care equipment.

We need a comprehensive approach to the role, considering the personal needs of the client, and ensuring that the support team are happy and engaged in their posts, with access to the training they need to enable them to deliver the highest standards of care.

The role requires strong, confident liaison with family, friends and external clinical and professional staff. It is vital that the family of this client feel confident and comfortable living alongside the support team in their family home.

This position is all about ensuring high quality of life, creating a safe, caring and comfortable work environment and taking real pride in ensuring that this client is receiving the very best care available.

Duties will include:

  • Implementation and creation of care and therapy plans
  • Co-ordination of round the clock support staff
  • Being an integral part of a 24-hour care team, including night shifts
  • To undertake and coordinate household tasks (shopping, laundry, cleaning etc)
  • To drive the client to appointments and activities using a provided vehicle
  • Maintaining clear and accurate written and digital records
  • To accompany the client on regular holidays in the UK and abroad
  • To maintain high levels of confidentiality in all communication
  • Full remit of staff management required; rotas, sickness, training, meetings, supervision, budgeting and expenditure, domestic services, and documentation.

The successful applicant will be expected to ‘lead by example’ in a positive and inspiring way. The Team Leader will motivate and support the other team members at all times, quickly identifying areas of concern and creating effective solutions. Equally we need to hire someone who will also recognise and celebrate exceptional team and individual performance.

This is an unusual role. The rewards are high, but the work is demanding and challenging, with long hours and emotional pressures. It is essential that the Team Leader understands and demonstrates that although the travel element of this role can be exciting, this is in fact a full-time job, and that whether it is in the home on the Isle of Wight, or on a cruise ship in the Caribbean, the levels of care must be consistent at all times and while the benefits of travelling the globe are wonderful, this is in no way a holiday for the Team Leader or the support team.

The role offers £20 p/h and the role runs on average at 40hrs per week when annualised. However due to the nature of this role, the hours can fluctuate with the shift pattern, and when travelling for example, time may be blocked out in weeks for the travelling team. Applicants must therefore be prepared to be away from home for weeks at a time where needed.
