Here at The Isle of Wight College we work with a number of employers, in a vast array of industries. We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a passionate and eager-to-learn Front of House Apprentice at Met Italia in Ventnor.

Located on Ventnor seafront, Met Italia is a busy cafe/restaurant that serves a variety of food throughout the day and night. They are looking for an extra pair of hands to learn new skills.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work for a company that will reward hard work. Pay is negotiable depending on the candidate, and generous tips are divided up each month. Every shift, you will be offered lunch or dinner for free, as well as unbottled soft drinks. You will also be given a Friends and Family discount, offering a huge 25% off.

The successful candidate will undertake jobs such as greeting customers, serving and clearing tables, possible bar work and generally working with the front of house team to maintain our high standards of service.

Job purpose

You will need to:

  • be flexible and work effectively as a member of our successful team
  • support the restaurant service throughout the day
  • work and communicate effectively with the team
  • provide consistency and high standards in all you do
  • be self-confident, ambitious and motivated, enthusiastic and self-driven
  • work at weekends and evenings
  • The Boathouse has a busy restaurant which is run to a high standard. You will have to work hard and you will be responsible for your own transport to and from work. Time keeping is essential in the hospitality industry.

Skills required

The candidate will need to:

  • be a good team player
  • show good communication skills
  • follow and implement instructions
  • have good literacy and numeracy skills
  • show a willingness to learn and be trained
  • be able to work independently or under supervision
  • Have the ability to record their training and personal development

Personal Qualities   

You will need to be:

  • punctual and hard-working
  • calm in a busy working environment
  • methodical and orderly in your work
  • well-presented with good personal hygiene
  • a good team member with a great personality and a passion for good customer service

Qualifications Required

  • No formal catering qualification is required, however a passion for customer service and self-motivation is key.
  • Good level of literacy and numeracy would be preferable

Apprenticeship Framework

  • Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hospitality Services
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT, if required

Working Week

  • 30 - 40 hours per week, NO SPLIT SHIFTS
  • 4-5 days a week, including day release at the IW College during term time
  • Weekend work is essential to this post

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
