A great opportunity has arisen at The Ocean Deck in Sandown, which is re-opened under New Ownership in April 2024.

The Ocean Deck are looking for an Apprentice Commis Chef.

This is an ideal position for someone leaving School or College.

The successful applicant will be working in amazing surroundings, in the heart of Sandown Bay.

As an apprentice Commis Chef, you will take on a full-time role in the kitchen under the supervision of passionate chefs alongside your training.

You will be training for the Level 2 Commis Chef qualification with HTP Apprenticeship College.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing vegetables, meats and fish
  • Provide food preparation and high standards of cooking to meet regulatory and legislative requirements around food hygiene and dietary requirements and presentation
  • To assist the other chefs
  • Assisting with stock rotation and cleaning stations
  • Helping with deliveries and re-stocking
  • Contributing to maintaining kitchen and food safety standards

  • Keen to develop your skills in the hospitality sector
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Effective time management (organising and planning)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow policy and procedures
  • High standards of cleanliness and hygiene
  • A flexibility to work weekends and holidays – this is a MUST in any hospitality role
  • Self-motivated and capable of working on your own and working with others
  • A flexible approach to getting any task done

Wage:

Apprenticeship wage for age – from 1st April £6.40 for 16-18 years.

Hours:

The working hours will be 35 – which includes time for completing your apprenticeship learning.

This will be based on 5 days, including some weekends.

Candidates will need to have achieved Maths and English at GCSE or equivalent grades A-C (9-4) or Level 2 functional skills in maths and English before completing the qualification.
